Zombies, songs, and headaches

I'm having so much fun with the zombie game. Even *more* fun would be had if the server that the game is on was remotely prepared for the number of people who wanted to play. I think there's still a warning for all citizens to stay indoors...because as I found out last night, walking outside and having your game freeze is no fun, especially if the number of zombies around you keeps increasing every time you hit the "refresh" button.

Yes, I should have spent some of that time studying. At least you'll be able to say "I told you so" if I don't pass. But fortunately for me, I don't get my exam results until November...and I'm betting you'll have forgotten by then.

And I *did* study this weekend. So there.

I also sang quite a bit this weekend and learned many new songs. I woke up with the Battle Round playing in my head, so I think I'm doing okay on the learning front.

I also had the pleasure (hah) of experiencing my first ever migraine this weekend. I think. My boy thought it was a migraine when I described the symptoms to him, but he couldn't quite figure out why my head felt silvery. I can't find a better way to describe it, either - it felt silvery for about 12 hours afterward. *shrug* Ah well, at least it was on a weekend. Damn, that was painful, though. There was a point on Saturday night when I found myself thinking "Maybe it'll stop hurting so much if I just break my nose...." Happily, I realized how stupid that was and sat on my hands for a while.

...

And I got cookies...in German. :)

Migraines are nasty beasts. The duration makes it probably that it might have been one. Glad you are feeling better.
Well, it actively hurt for several hours on Saturday night, and then just felt weird and almost-hurty from the time I woke up on Sunday until about midday. I don't know what it was or where it came from, but I'll be happy if it doesn't ever come back.
did you get any light or sound sensititivities? any weird strobey light lines in one eye (symptom of an ocular migraine, which is a migraine that takes place near the ocular nerves).

Migraines can come with after-headaches, which are nowhere near as bad but still painful. They always make me feel surreal for lackof a better word.
Hm. I didn't notice any visual weirdness while it was actively hurting, but it's possible that's due to the fact that I was trying to smother myself with a pillow at the time. I did notice that during the surreal time afterward (and that's a good word for it), everything seemed really bright.
That sounds like light sensitivity. IFor me everything gets too brights, and for lack of a better word, granular, like the quality of the film in my eyes has gone from movie quality to tv quality.

Sounds like a migraine. If you get one again, and I hope you don't...you may want to see if you can figure out the triggers for it. Mine come in conjunction with sudden changes in the weather (barometric pressure shifts), but some people get them from foods, cigarette smoke, perfumes, etc. I used to get them maybe 1x every 2 years, and then I moved to the seacoast with its constant shifting weather...and I've gotten them 1-2x a year. When my neck was screwed up I was getting them 3-4 times a month, which is about at the limit that they start putting you on maintenance medicine. Happily my neck got mostly fixed and now I haven't had one in months.

The interesting thing is migraines tend to run in families, there's some genetic component. My mom and dad both get them once every blue moon or less, but my dad didn't realize he got migraines until I described the symptoms to him.
I'm going to chalk this one up to stress and hope it doesn't happen again. I don't need to acquire any more medical problems, thank you. :)

there's some genetic component.

This could be said of most disorders out there. Trust me, lady - I'm a professional.
oh I trust you. ;)

It's actually a direct correlation, if one of your parents get migraines, there's a 25% chance you will. but yeah i know that's common.

I will now stop babbling about this. :)

Aaarrrrgh

I've been trying not to reply to this; to let it just sit here in my livejournal. But I can't.

Where did you get that number?

Re: Aaarrrrgh

One of the migraine associations/research groups (when I started getting them a lot I went on an investigative spree, some of which may not have been accurate), and it could be completely wrong. So chop it up to me be blonde and misremembering...and we'll both feel better.

Re: Aaarrrrgh

in fact I will even remove the offending comment so as not to taunt you, as I know I don't know as much about genetics as you do.

Re: Aaarrrrgh

No, no, it's not that. I'm chalking it up to the fact that about 50% of all medical information found on the Internet is just plain Wrong.

Re: Aaarrrrgh

ah, okay that could be it to. I do buy there's a direct correlation between parent/child, but something like 47% of all statistics are made up anyhow.

(1) 47 being an aribitrary and made up number in this case.

Re: Aaarrrrgh

47 being an aribitrary and made up number in this case.

*laughing*

It's also that I (thanks to the genetic counselor training) tend to be highly suspicious of numbers. They're tricksey.

Tricksy Numbers

They are. Luckily for engineers, we add a fudge factor of about 3, over engineer the crap out of stuff and call it a day.

[Pi is really equal to 3 for most applications.]

For online medical stuff I don't tend to trust numbers as much.

But just for the record...

Migraines can have multiple different causes. Some migraine syndromes are inherited in an autosomal dominant manner (meaning if one parent has them, each child has a 50% chance), some are related to differences in blood clotting (which are typically inherited in a recessive manner), and some are due mitochondrial problems - which can be inherited either in a recessive manner, or mitochondrially (aka maternally).

I can't WAIT until this damn exam is over.
p.s. I am really glad you are feeling better. If you find you ever get them again, there's a bunch of things that you can do to try and alleve them. A lot of people get precursor warning signals/headaches. I get ones that involve vision, and I notice that things get too bright before the fullblown migraine hits. I also get a weird pulasting flahing line in my vision sometimes and aura effects. If I get these I know to take meds right off and it keeps the worst of it from hitting.

I love Janie for ever and ever cause the 2nd or 3rd time I met her she made my worst migraine after headache go away through massage and working on my ears.

I am also tremendously grateful I do NOT get these often.
I'm sorry about your migraine. I get those sometimes and know how horrible they are. I usually just take some tylenol and go to sleep if I can. :(
And the zombie game is lots of fun. What name are you using in the game? I am Cara Hunter.
I...er...actually have three characters. My first was Raven Jones, and she was a medic...but I got bored with her and killed her off, so now she's a zombie.

I also have anandra, a basic Military type, and Elizabetta, a NecroTech employee. She's my highest XP character, because I just run around doing DNA extractions on all the zombies. 4 XP a pop!
